Empowering Algae to Fight Climate Change

ICGEB

Utilizing Genome Editing for Carbon Neutrality and Bio-Production

PtBio Inc. is pleased to announce a collaboration agreement with the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), a prestigious international organization. This partnership aims to unlock the potential of microalgae to address global environmental challenges.

The Mission: "Super Algae" for a Green Future

Microalgae are microscopic organisms capable of absorbing Carbon Dioxide (CO2) through photosynthesis. Our joint research focuses on using gene-editing technology to enhance the ability of green microalgae to capture CO2 (carbon sequestration) more efficiently. Additionally, we aim to optimize these algae to produce valuable resources, such as lipids (oils) and pigments, which can be used for biofuels and nutritional supplements.

Technological Synergy

This project brings together the specific strengths of both partners:

  • PtBio (Japan): We provide our proprietary Platinum TALEN® gene-editing platform and vector design expertise to accurately engineer the microalgal genome.

  • ICGEB (New Delhi Component): Utilizing their advanced infrastructure, they will perform the gene-editing experiments, analyze the resulting algae strains, and assess their performance.

Future Outlook

By combining Japanese biotechnology with ICGEB's global research network, we strive to develop sustainable solutions that contribute to a carbon-neutral society and the creation of eco-friendly biological products.
